Dear Port of Virginia Customers and Partners:

On June 22, The Port of Virginia publicly released a SOLAS policy document, outlining the implementation of the new policy, and accompanying procedures.  In light of the dynamic nature of the SOLAS initiative, and as a result of further review and discussion, we are offering a second update to the policy document today, June 29. Highlights of the June 29 update include:

  • The default option for obtaining VGMs will be the use of our scaled weight, obtained when loaded export containers arrive at our terminals.
  • The schedule of rates (tariff) will stipulate that the default option is the use of this weight.
  • The option to supply a VGM directly, via VERMAS, requires the ocean carrier to notify us, via e mail, with the proposed message prescribed on page 2, bullet #6 of the SOLAS policy document.
  • The option to supply a VGM directly will not be available until July 8th, given our ERD of 7 days.
