Basso, Luisella

 

Luisella Basso is the Vice President of International Trade and Customs Compliance at Pitney Bowes Global Ecommerce. In this role, she is responsible for the strategic design and operational execution of trade compliance solutions across more than 220 countries and territories, and for creating and managing a comprehensive import and export compliance, duty drawback and classification program.

 

Luisella has almost 20 years of experience in import/export, international logistics and customs compliance in a variety of industries including luxury market goods, fashion and apparel, electronics and high tech products. Her expertise includes tariff classification and valuation, EAR compliance, export license requirements, Inco terms, IATA’s dangerous good regulations, endangered and protected species restrictions (USFW and CITES), duty drawback and FCPA compliance.

 

Prior to Pitney Bowes and Borderfree, Luisella was the Director of Global Trade Compliance at Choice Logistics Inc., a global provider of mission critical parts logistics services to leading high-tech companies, where she oversaw and advised on compliance and regulatory practices domestically and abroad.

 

Luisella was also a senior export manager at Sotheby’s, the world–renowned auction house, where she supervised export operations, and oversaw the coordination of issuance of CITES permits for endangered species items and the movement of priceless artwork on Carnets.

 

She holds a BA and MA degree In International Relations from the University of Padua, Italy, and an MBA in International Business from Farleigh Dickinson University. Luisella became a licensed customs broker in 2010 and is a certified customs specialist.

 

Luisella co-chairs AAEI International Policy committee; is a member of the USCIB and ICPA. She is a former chair of the AAEI Textile and Apparel Committee; former chair for the Organizational of Women in International Trade NY Chapter, and former adjunct professor of International Trade at Baruch College in New York.

 

Luisella has collaborated with the Dept. of Commerce sponsored “Getting to Global” initiative, and has regularly advised CBP COAC members on cross-border ecommerce compliance issues. Some of her recent public engagements include: panel moderator on Trade Facilitation Agreement ( TFA) at the 2017 AAEI Annual Conference in Austin, TX; guest speaker at the 2017 WTO Technical Committee on Customs Valuation meeting in Brussels, Belgium; panelist at the 2015 Discover Global Markets: E-Commerce Strategies conference organized by the US Commercial Service.
