Peter Powell, Sr., Named Recipient of 2010 NCBFAA Centurion Award

Washington, DC: The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America, Inc. (NCBFAA) has named former President and Chairman Peter H. Powell, Sr., 2010 recipient of the Association’s prestigious Centurion Award. Mr. Powell has been a tireless and long-standing champion of the NCBFAA and the Association is very pleased to be able to bestow this well deserved honor on a very dear friend.
        Mr. Powell is the latest in a distinguished line of honorees that includes NCBFAA Senior Counselor Arthur Litman, the late NCBFAA Customs/General Counsel Harvey Issacs, NCBFAA Senior Counselor Paul Wegener, and NCBFAA Senior Counselor Leonard M. Shayne. 
        CEO of C.H. Powell Company in Canton, Massachusetts, Mr. Powell has served the Association in many capacities during his long career with the NCBFAA. His dedicated commitment epitomizes the very spirit of this award, which NCBFAA Chairman Federico Zuniga created in 2006 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding support and involvement in the affairs of the Association.
        “The respect I feel toward Peter for his knowledge of this industry, his understanding of its challenges, his selfless willingness to help his colleagues, and his sincere affection for our organization,” said NCBFAA President Mary Jo Muoio, “made Peter our undisputed choice to receive the NCBFAA’s 2010 Centurion Award.” 
        The Award will be presented during the closing reception for the 2010 NCBFAA Annual Conference, April 11-14 at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country, San Antonio, Texas.
        "Being brought to DC by (then) President Peter Powell was one of the highlights of my international trade association career, as it has been an honor for the NCBFAA Team to work with him," said NCBFAA Executive Vice President barbara reilly. "What Peter has long brought to the table is his substantial industry knowledge, remarkable acumen in business matters, and an on-going relationship with Capitol Hill as well as with our federal regulatory partners in the international trade arena that have long made his contributions to his company and our Association all that much more substantial and effective.”
        Mr. Powell graduated in 1956 from the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a B.S. degree in business administration. After college, he served for three years in the U.S. Air Force as radar intercept officer. Subsequent to his military service, Mr. Powell joined C.H. Powell Company, founded in 1919. Today, he is CEO and has given more than 50 years of service to the company.
        In March 2002, Mr. Powell assumed the NCBFAA Chairmanship after serving two terms as NCBFAA President. He is currently a member of the NCBFAA Security Committee. Before being elected to his first term as president in 1998, he served as vice president and chairman of the Association’s Forwarding Committee. In those positions, he testified before both houses of Congress on the Shipping Reform Act of 1998. Furthermore, Mr. Powell has been directly involved with Customs and Border Protection as it continues to develop automated reporting of commodity and transport export data. He is also a member of the NCBFAA’s Annual Conference Planning Committee and Political Action Committee Board of Governors.
        In addition to his roles with C.H. Powell and NCBFAA, Mr. Powell serves as TSA Liaison Committee member; Foreign Commerce Club member; member of the Board of Directors of The National Industrial Transportation League; Coalition for Airline Security member; COAC Trade Support Network (TSN) Security Subcommittee member; and also serves on the Maritime Committee.
        Mr. Powell is married, has three adult children, 12 grandchildren, and lives in Wellesley, MA.
