Washington, DCThe National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc., (NCBFAA) announced today that U.S. Customs Commissioner Robert C. Bonner will address attendees at the NCBFAA 2002 Annual Conference in Hollywood, Florida, March 10-13. Commissioner Bonner is slated to speak on Wednesday, March 13.
The theme of the 28th NCBFAA conference is "Staying Ahead of the Curve: Our Emerging Role in Logistics Management." Although a topic has yet to be confirmed, previous Commissioners have used these occasions to showcase Customs programs and plans for future initiatives that affect the industry. It is expected that the heightened emphasis on border security and Customs’ increasingly important role in that areas will greatly influence his comments.
The NCBFAA discussed the invitation to attend the conference last week during its first formal meeting with Commissioner Bonner and Andrew Maner, Director, Office of Trade Relations. NCBFAA representatives included NCBFAA President Peter Powell, Sr., CEO, C. H. Powell; NCBFAA Vice President and Customs Committee Chairman Federico "Kiko" Zuniga, Treasurer, F. Zuniga, Inc.; and NCBFAA EVP barbara reilly. During their discussions, they touched on numerous basic issues including NCBFAA’s positive working relationship with the Customs Headquarters and various national ports, Customs automation programs, the CPAT and TPAT port and border security initiatives, continuing education for customs brokers and other issues germane to the industry.
